Ruby, the birthstone for the month of July
Gemstones are at the heart of Surya Mathew’s creations. Surya Mathew selects them with particular attention to their origin, their brilliance, their energy, and their symbolism.

The ruby, called surya in Sanskrit, is one of the four major precious gemstones, prized for its intense red color. It is renowned for attracting luck and warding off evil spirits. In the past, Chinese warriors adorned their armor with rubies to defeat their enemies.
Today, it symbolizes carnal and passionate love. Ancient beliefs credited it with the power to protect its wearer from harm. The ruby is one of the most coveted precious stones after the diamond. It is considered ideal for women, believed to chase away worries, sorrow, and depression. Its deep, luminous red color is due to the presence of chromium, though its hue may vary.
The Creator's Word
“The ruby is the sun. A symbol of fire, love, and creativity, the ruby radiates a powerful energy. Since time immemorial, it has been credited with the power to purify, ward off negative influences, and draw the heart of a loved one toward its wearer. Its beauty and intensity are fully revealed when paired with stones in solar hues: orange sapphires, yellow sapphires, yellow diamonds, and fuchsia sapphires. This blend creates a warm play of contrasts, vibrating with light. It is in contact with these gems that the ruby reveals its true depth and intensifies its aura. Among the most sought-after are the so-called "pigeon’s blood" rubies from Burma. Their deep red color, imbued with purity, evokes the warmth and comfort of sincere love.”
You can incorporate this gem into a custom-made piece of Haute Joaillerie or personalize a piece from one of our Talisman collections. A unique piece of jewelry that reflects your individuality and enhances your birthstone.
